Hardly anyone buys a new roof because he wants to. One does so because he is forced into it by an old roof that is wearing out and possibly beginning to leak. Shingles are the ideal siding material for do-it-yourselfers. Unlike huge sheets of plywood, or long floppy strips of siding, shingles are easy for one person to handle.

The gutters on most homes today are the five-inch, aluminum ”K” style, with  a flat back and bottom, and an ”ogee” front. Given seasonal attention,  gutters of this type should last dozens of years without major problems.
