Making the Change to Smaller Scale Energy Products

It’s one thing to know all the theories about sustainable energy, and to agree that everyone needs to do their part. There are many renewable energy products available for corporations, large buildings, and large-scale projects. But for a while now, people have been demanding the kinds of renewable energy commodities for use on a smaller scale. For example, if an individual or a family wanted to convert their home to a greener type of energy, or even adopt personal products that use energy more efficiently, what is available to them?

The majority of energy research, at first, was directed at the larger picture, like huge wind turbines and industrial sized solar panels intended to be utilized in wind farms and on the roofs of huge buildings. But soon, as scientists realized that some of the needs for renewable electricity originated from the volume of power required down the line, by everyday people, new products became available that allowed these consumers to reduce that requirement and make some of their own energy at home.

The two most common products designed to help individuals have been tailored either toward solar or renewable wind energy. One of the most recent developments has been the creation of miniature wind turbines that can be attached to the roof of a home, or slightly larger ones that can be set up in some corner in the back yard. These energy products are getting less expensive and are beginning to provide cleaner energy to supply the home, resulting in significant cost savings. These and the familiar solar panels can sometimes come close to supplying all the energy needs of a home without resorting to the larger grid.

In a way, there are three scales for renewable energy products: large for communities, medium for homes and similar buildings, and small for individuals. In the latter category you’ll find things like solar batteries that can power hair dryers on camping trips, or very small solar panels or wind turbines to attach to an RV for traveling.

With the basic technology now developed, designers are inspired to use it in countless ways, to help people wean themselves from fossil fuels and switch to the use of renewable energy.
